This Rockruff comes with a unique ability not found in any other of its kind: Own Tempo. This ability prevents the Pokemon from becoming confused. It’s also the ability that allows Rockruff to evolve into the exclusive Dusk Form Lycanroc.
So the question stands, how exactly do you get your Own Tempo Rockruff and how can you evolve it into Dusk Lycanroc? Let’s dive in!
How to Obtain an Own Tempo Rockruff in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
There are a couple of ways to get an Own Tempo Rockruff. If you bought the game near launch, it’s as simple as downloading it through Mystery Gift. Before redeeming your Mystery Gift, however, I suggest you reach a point in the game where you have access to a Pokemon Center.
Once the Pokemon Center is unlocked, save the game and exit to the title menu. From here, click on the Mystery Gift option and select Receive Gift. Then simply connect to the internet to check for your gift and presto, the special Own Tempo Rockruff is right there waiting for you.
Once the Mystery Gift has been downloaded, continue your game and talk to the guy in the orange- and blue-striped shirt by the nurse’s desk in the Pokemon Center. So long as you have a free spot in your party, he’ll give you a Level 10 Own Tempo Rockruff holding a Focus Band.
If you missed your chance at the Mystery Gift, however, there’s still a way to obtain an Own Tempo Rockruff. Those who did get the Mystery Gift can breed their Rockruff or Dusk Lycanroc and hatch more Own Tempo Rockruffs for others to use. You just need to trade with someone who has extras lying around.
How to Evolve Rockruff into Dusk Lycanroc in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon
Once you have your Own Tempo Rockruff, don’t expect it to evolve into a Dusk Form Lycanroc if you just level it up and evolve it willy-nilly. Just like Lycranroc’s Midday and Midnight forms, the Dusk Form is only obtained if you evolve your Own Tempo Rockruff at a specific time of day.
In order to evolve an Own Tempo Rockruff into a Dusk Form Lycanroc, it must be leveled up to 25 or higher between the in-game times of 5:00 pm and 5:59 pm. This means that those playing Pokemon Ultra Sun must evolve it between 5:00 pm and 5:59 pm in the real world (according to the 3DS clock), while those playing Pokemon Ultra Moon must evolve it between 5:00 am and 5:59 am.
Remember that if it reaches level 25 and tries to evolve before this time frame, it will evolve into its Midday form instead. Likewise, if it were to evolve after that time frame, it would turn into its Midnight form.
If you ever find yourself in a situation where your Own Tempo Rockruff tries to evolve outside of the specified time frame, remember to mash B in order to stop the evolution. It may even be smart to consider slapping an Everstone on your Rockruff until you’re ready to evolve it.
